Parallax View Interview

When did the band form?
About four years ago. Seth and I are brothers, so we’ve been playing for a long time now. I think I was a senior in high school when we started playing together, which was in 2001. When we started playing music we started in a youth group with our cousin Mark, who is also in the band, but he couldn’t be here today because he had to work. We just started playing for a youth group and leading worship on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings in church. We finally just started going out and playing in places. We got Matt involved because Seth and Matt went to school together. As far as playing Christian music, we just started out playing music and we would do covers for other worship bands and Christian rock bands. Parallax view has just always played Christian music its just been who we were and what we did.

Have you gained any new members since you started?
Yes we have. When started the band it was just Seth, Mark, and I, Mark isn’t here so we added Matt in 2005 and at one point we had another member before also so we’ve kind of changed a little bit we’ve had a couple of different drummers I think we’ve had about 3 different drummers but matt has stuck the longest he’s a cool member and he will be for a long time as long as he wants (laughing)

How did you guys start playing concerts?
It really came out of the local church setting like we were playing at a local church and we started doing concerts at the local church at like lock ins and different things like that and then youth for Christ I think there called young faith in Christ here in the county they started having us play in different events and outside of that I don’t know we just started getting ask to play at churches and camps and retreats and stuff like that.

How did you end up playing in Windermere?
We were asked to play by Andy Sherrill. I don’t remember if we played the national youth convention or Windermere first.

What is the best thing about being in a band?
Free food. Playing shows is fun. Practicing isn’t so much fun. We don’t do it much. The practicing thing is the hard part. It’s much easier to stand and play the concerts with the crowds and people. You’ve got to put in the time and effort to practice and it’s not always the most fun. which is the hardest. The hardest is tearing down after a concert. I don’t like to put the band above everything else.

Do you guys ever get nervous?
Matt goes into this little pregame routine that he goes into… we won’t talk about right now (laughter). We don’t get as nervous as we used to. I think it’s easier to play in front of people you don’t know, because there’s no one to impress. We play in front of four or five hundred people every week and you kind of get used to them staring at you. You start staring back.

Do you ever get tired of every one screaming constantly?
I guess if you want to scream, go ahead. We have these earplug things, so we can’t hear them; we only hear the band.

Do you guys have any CD’s out right now?
I guess you can call it a CD…we’ve got an old one. We put it out, and we're trying to make a new CD.

Who’s the main song writer in the group?
There’s not. We all play a part in song writing. I might write some lyrics, or Seth or Mark might write some lyrics, the whole band just puts the songs together.

Is there one band leader or is it a group thing?

Ben's the leader, but on other days Andy is. (Ben) Music wise I just kind of play along. They're a lot better than me. I sing.
