What made you want to open a music shop?
I’ve been in retailing all my life. I was a wal-mart store manager for 8 years. I supervised convenience stores for 10 years. I felt Farmington was the place to be.

What kind of experience do you have in music?
I played drums and guitar in high school and college. I got a music scholarship 1977-80 at Mineral Area College. I play mandolin, fiddle, and Indian flute.
Were you ever in a band, if so what was the name?
I was in a band with John Gettinger and a country band in 1975. I was in a rock band named Cypress (1974-1979).
When did you decide you wanted to open Music Makers?
The year 2000
How many musicians do you come in contact with?
We have as many as 200 to 300 every week.
What kind of events do you sponsor?
We sponsored the St. Louis Symphony, Country Days, Various Concerts, Fall Festival, Guitar Showdown and various nursing homes.
Was opening the store lots of work?
Yes, but very exciting
Do you yourself teach lessons?
When we first opened I had 40 guitar students.
How did you find the musicians you have to teach lessons?
We advertise on cable TV, radio, newspaper, billboards, and word of mouth. |
