Fifth graders will be using the Sadlier-Oxford Spelling series (Level Blue). This series focuses on 12 vocabulary words each week. Students will have opportunities to review their words in a fun, interactive way using Moodle!
Check the "Fifth Grade Newsletter" page for the list of words for the week.

In fifth grade we study the history of the United States (pre-Columbian through present day). As part of our Social Studies curriculum, we also look at current events using Time for Kids. This short, weekly magazine provides us with a great opportunity to discuss what is going on in our world from a Christian standpoint.
I will use Moodle primarily to give extra resources (especially some great educational websites) and to post project requirements and due dates. We may occasionally do some extra discussion using a Moodle forum.

This year we are continuing with the Shurley English method! In fifth grade we are becoming more fluid with classifying sentences and are focusing more on our writing. Students are responsible for knowing all jingles posted on this page.

Welcome to the Fifth Grade Memory page! This year we will be learning parts of Luther's Small Catechism as well as verses from the Bible. I will post Memory here on Fridays when the Fifth Grade Newsletter goes home. Students must either say the Memory words or take a written test by Friday of the next week.

Reading is a life-long skill that we really focus on in fifth grade. Emphasis is placed on independent reading. We will be using the Open Court Reading series as well as some chapter books. Our class is very active in the Reading Counts program! We will be using Moodle forums for some of our discussions.
