HOW TO MAKE PAPER

  • Tear a sheet of newspaper into small pieces. Place the pieces in a plastic container and cover them with water. Let the mixture stand overnight.
  • Place the soaked paper into an electric blender. Add water to cover the paper. Blend the water and paper until a smooth mixture is formed. This is called paper pulp.
  • Place window screening in the bottom of a flat try. Then quickly pour the pulp onto the screen.
  • Lift the screen straight up out of the tray. There should be an even layer of pulp on the screen.
  • Set the screen on several layers of newspaper to absorb water from the pulp.
  • Place a sheet of wax paper over the pulp. Use a heavy book to press the water out of the pulp.
  • Remove the book. Holding the wax paper and the screen, turn them upside down. Remove the screen. Let the pulp sit overnight. Predict what the new paper will be like.
  • The next day carefully remove your new paper. Allow it to dry thoroughly. Try writing, drawing, or painting on your paper.
